Tilicho Lake and Round Annapurna Trekking
Unforgettable scenery but caution is required on the trek
One of the world’s highest lakes, Tilicho Tal, is reached on a side trip from Manang. The lake is set amidst dramatic scenery and is often frozen over. Glaciers form a wall of ice on the western shore of the lake and avalanches sometimes fall from the high snows above. This trek covers some tricky ground and conditions should be checked if there has been snowfall.
The bleak beauty of the trail will inspire, but make sure you have an experienced guide and are well-prepared. On the way back it is possible to stay at a new lodge before Khangsar at Shree Karka, and then take a short cut to the main trail below Yak Karka, avoiding a return to Manang. Depending on fitness and energy you can also shorten this side trip.
